You might only get fresh family photographs for the annual holiday card. Or you might just do them every few years. Whatever your investment choice, family photographs are important!
Family photographs bring your family together. They serve as a reminder of the love you have for one another. Especially in the current times we are in, family portraits can bring comfort and offer healing in times of grief or uncertainty.
Studies have reported that hanging family photographs in your home can increase your child’s self-esteem. When your family is photographed and those photographs are displayed showcasing the love in your family, it sends a subconscious message that you are important to one another and those memories you created together are honored.
David Krauss is a licensed psychologist from Cleveland, Ohio. Krauss states, “I think it is really important to show a family as a family unit. It is so helpful for children to see themselves as a valued and important part of that family unit. A photographer’s job is to create and make the image look like a safe holding space for kids where they are safe and protected. Kids get it on a really simple level.”
In today’s world, families are viewing their images almost exclusively in a digital form. This can be on mobile devices, laptop, social media, or scrolling through an iPad. Will the digital images have the same affect on children to boost their self-esteem? According to David Krauss, “I am very conservative about self-esteem and I think placing a family photo someplace in the home where the child can see it every day without having to turn on a device or click around on a computer to find it really hits home for that child’s sense of reassurance and comfort. They have a certainty about them and a protecting quality that nurtures a child…”
Each family session captures joyful moments, showcasing the love between you and your family. My sessions are full of chances to love on one another, to play together. The goal is to make memories not only in real life, but to be preserved so you can flip through your album together and re-live the joy felt that day.
I personally hire a photographer once or twice a year to photograph my family. My daughter loves turning the pages of our family albums and starts to giggle and laugh as she sees herself in the pages.

Fueled by equal parts strong coffee and French 75’s, I spend my days capturing the kinds of images that convey distinctive emotion through intentional moments and create elevated images you’ll treasure for a lifetime. I showcase your story and your love in an exceptional, gracious way. I believe in real moments, heartfelt conversations, love stories that grow stronger through the storms and the kind of joy that can be found in the simplest of moments together. When I'm not tearing up during the vows, you'll find me whipping up a new recipe in the kitchen, listening to Sinatra, or snuggling with my mini me.
